Bill Coury Pic

William Coury (1974)

Billy Coury played football, basketball and baseball for the Hilltoppers. He led the Durfee baseball team for two years, and he also signed a minor league baseball contract.
     

 

 

 


Ken Fiola Pic

Ken Fiola (1977)

Fiola, the first basketball player to surpass 1000 points in his high school career, was the captain of Durfee's state championship team and an All-State competitor. He was presented the George Kaplan Memorial Award as the Hilltoppers' top basketball player and twice named to All-Scholastic teams.
     

 

 


Al Herren Pic

Al Herren (1970)

Herren was captain of the Durfee basketball team as a senior and led the Hilltoppers with 18.4 points-per-game. He was named Player of the Year by the Southeastern Massachusetts Association of Basketball Officials and was an All-State and two-time All-Bristol County League performer.
     

 

 


Richard Kehoe Pic

Richard Kehoe (1961)

Kehoe played football for Durfee, winning All-Bristol County League status twice. He also played baseball for the Toppers, acting as a power hitter.
     

 

 

 


Sue Kitchen Pic

Susan Kitchen (1980)

Kitchen is oftren regarded as the best swimmer in Durfee's history. She was named Swimmer of the Year in Massachusetts and helped the Hilltoppers capture the 1978 State Championship. She graduated with the national high school record in the 50- yard freestyle with a time of 25.10 and the state record in the 100-yard freestyle, swimming a time of 52.91. She was also an All-State competitor for three consecutive seasons, leaving her mark in Durfee's swimming program.
     

 

 


BJ McDonald Pic

B.J. McDonald (1978)

McDonald played on the Hilltoppers' state championship team as a junior and helped Durfee get to the finals as a senior. B.J. was a two-time All-Scholastic selection in basketball and an All-Scholastic baseball player as a senior, averaging .348.
     

 

 

 


Joanne Mederios Pic

Joanne Medeiros (1977)

Medeiros earned her title of he Female Athlete of the Year in 1978. She was also an outstanding field hockey, basketball and softball player, who went on to gain All- American status at Worcester State College in field hockey.
     

 

 

 


Ed Sulliovan Pic

Ed Sullivan (1949)

Sullivan played baseball for the Hilltoppers in the late 1940's. He was an excellent pitcher, who was also undefeated as a junior and continued to dominate in his senior year.
     

 

 

 


Tom Suneson Pic

Thomas Suneson (1975)

Suneson, who was named Durfee's outstanding athlete in 1976, played football, basketball, and baseball. Tom was also named to All-Scholastic teams in football and baseball and received the Tom Gastall Award, which honors excellence in baseball.
     

 

 

 


Kevin Whiting Pic

Kevin Whiting (1978)

Kevin Whiting, the Massachusetts Player of the Year in 1978, left Durfee leaving his mark as the school's highest scorer, scoring 1,344 points. He averaged 19.2 as a junior and 22.2 as a senior. He was the George Kaplan Award winner as Durfee's most outstanding basketball player, was named to the All-State team, and was an All-Scholastic player for two years. Besides his excellence in basketball, he also played a major role in the Hilltoppers' baseball team, playing outfield and averaging .380 as a senior.
