Early Education & Care
Program Overview:
The Early Education & Care Program gives students the opportunity to explore the world of work in the area of Early Childhood Education as well as other career pathways working with children. The increasing demand for early childhood educators has provided many opportunities for employment. The Early Education and Care Program promotes learning through mastery of competencies, interpersonal communication skills, and an understanding of all aspects of the industry. An individual assessment of each student’s ability is evaluated to maximize his or her potential in achieving a rewarding career.
Students are taught to take responsibility for their actions, learning workplace behavior, self-discipline, and professionalism. Strong work habits and persistence are encouraged daily promoting a strong, self-motivated student that takes pride in his or her work.

Program Sequence:
This full year course introduces the student to the concepts of child development, age birth through 12 years old. Topics include creating a safe and healthy environment for children, discipline and guidance techniques, an introduction to curriculum development and writing lesson plans. Students must maintain a passing grade in order to be eligible to return for the Early Education and Care II Program.
This full year course which utilizes two periods per day promotes a further understanding of the Physical, Social, Emotional and Intellectual development of the preschool age child. Students spend two periods each morning in the on site laboratory preschool working with four and five-year old children. Students are responsible for creating developmentally appropriate curriculum and implementing activities in the classroom as well as observation of children. Students must maintain a passing grade in order to be eligible to return for the Early Education and Care III Program. Note: Students will be required to have a uniform as determined by the instructor.
This full year course which utilizes four periods per day promotes a further understanding of the Physical, Social, Emotional and Intellectual development of the child from birth to age 5. Affiliations at community child care centers enable the student to apply knowledge and skills learned in the classroom. Students are placed in centers and classrooms based on their future career goals. They develop and implement lesson plans, conduct observations of children and create a professional portfolio highlighting their accomplishments. Note: Students will be required to have a uniform as determined by the instructor.
