Student Transfers

All children of school age who reside in the district will be entitled to attend the public schools, as will certain children who do not reside in the district but who are admitted under School Committee policies relating to nonresident students or by specific action of the School Committee.

FRPS students are assigned to neighborhood school(s) based on their address. Students may be reassigned based on needs for specialized programming or in consideration of enrollment numbers.

At FRPS, an in-district student transfer is defined as a student moving from a district-assigned school to another FRPS school. Decisions around student transfer requests are made using the following process:

  • The transfer request portal opens the first week of July.
  • Requests are reviewed during the first 2 weeks of August by a district team.
  • The final decision on a student transfer request is granted by the Superintendent.

In-district transfer requests are granted based on the availability of seats at the requested school once informed enrollment projections are finalized for each school. Priority is given to families with siblings at the requested school, followed by hardships, then preference. Students who are chronically absent will not be eligible for an in-district transfer.

Transportation will not be provided.

Students who have been granted a transfer request will be sent back to their neighborhood school if they become chronically absent.

To submit a transfer request, a parent/guardian must fill out the transfer request form online, located on the FRPS webpage during.
