James Tansey School Vision

The James Tansey Elementary School will work in partnership with parents and the community to help students develop a positive vision of the future and to acquire the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to succeed in their middle school community as well as our changing world. Students will be held to high expectations, valued for their individuality, culture and diversity and nurtured as individuals with social, emotional, physical and academic needs.

We shall:
  • Provide a student centered learning environment which fosters independence through active participation.
  • Provide a comprehensive and challenging curriculum in all content areas using targeted and focused instruction.
  • Continually collect and analyze a variety of assessments / data to inform instruction.
  • Ensure that all community members treat each other with dignity and respect.
  • Pursue partnerships with parents, community members, business and other agencies to ensure broad participation in education.

    Music in the Morning

The JamesTanseyElementary School has a program called “Music in the Morning”.Upon entering the school day, students sit in the auditorium and listen to various works done by composers such as Aaron Copeland, Ludwig van Beethoven etc.Children sit quietly and listen to teachers read a small excerpt about the composer. Then they listen to the same piece each day for 1 week.  The first ”Music In The Morning” produced quite an experience for both students and faculty. The students had never been quieter and the program seems to have a very calming influence on the school as a whole. The students even clapped after the piece was played and asked questions about the piece as well. A quote from Dr. G. Campbell Trowsdale states as follows “An important, if often neglected, part of public education’s mission is to bring its students into a living contact with the best that has been accomplished by our species in the arts”.  So make sure students are on time for school. The cafeteria doors close promptly at 8:15 A.M.
