The Spanish Club
Club advisors: Tiberio Melo
Co-Presidents: Carina Paz & Jordan Rego
The Spanish Club at BMC Durfee High School is open to all students who are taking or have taken Spanish and are interested in the Spanish language and culture. The Spanish's club purpose is to expose students to the language and culture through experiences outside of the classroom. Activities include but are not limited to the attending of performances of Spanish plays and dances, dinner at a Spanish or Mexican restaurant, and visits to different museums. Meetings are held monthly in room 479.
The Spanish Club organizes a yearly club trip where students are exposed to different aspects of the language and culture through "real" experiences in hopes of enriching their knowledge and understanding & opening their eyes to a culture other than their own.
For the past four years the club has traveled to New York City and has done some sightseeing, visited the Metropolitan Museum of Art to see the different pieces of Spanish art work, visited "El Museo del Barrio," and taken a tour of the Spanish Harlem in the city.
Also, last year the club attended the spectacular Broadway play "In the Heights." http://www.intheheightsthemusical.com/
The Spanish Club also is involved in different fundraisers throughout the school year and around the holiday season organizes a canned food drive for those in need.
