Tiberio Melo Named New Soccer Coach

Longtime Durfee High teacher and former junior varsity coach, Tiberio Melo has been named the new head boys soccer coach.

"We know how important soccer is to Durfee High School and to the community at large and we feel Mr. Tiberio Melo is the coach that can move this program to a new level." said Athletic Director, Mr. Todd Whittemore. "His philosophy on creating student athletes coincides with the overall mission of the athletic program."

Mr. Melo, who played soccer for Durfee and later for UMASS-Dartmouth, has been a teacher at BMC Durfee High School for 14 years, working in the World Languages Department. He also coached the boys JV soccer team from 2000 to 2007. Since stepping away from the coaching bench, he has worked directly with Sporting Club of Portugal; a professional soccer club from Portugal, as recruitment coordinator in the New England area. He has also worked directly with such programs as the New England Revolution, Providence College, Southern New Hampshire University, and Massasoit Community College.

"I am very exited to be back and am looking forward to the challenge and being part of the Durfee athletic department," said Mr. Melo.
