MCAS Prep/College Readiness .5 Credits

The MCAS Prep./College Readiness course is designed for those students who need remediation in English skills which will enable them to perform successfully on the Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System (MCAS). Emphasis will be placed on reading comprehension, writing skills, and test-taking strategies. Additionally, College Readiness is a continuation of the MCAS Prep course and will afford students the opportunity to become prepared for the Accuplacer test while providing college readiness skills through the use of informational texts and to expose students to the types of writing expected of them at the university level.

English IV - College Prep 1 Credit

Senior Contemporary Literature is a yearlong course designed primarily for seniors who plan to continue their studies in an academic or career pathway. The course objective is to expose students with the impact of global authors on literary scope and achievement. Independent as well as guided reading of selected works of contemporary World Literature is analyzed and discussed. In addition, current articles inclusive of vocabulary and subject matter geared toward building an awareness of the issues and themes of authors in the 21st Century are considered. Oral communication, written response and interpretation of the readings will be the main form of assessment.
