Mrs. Furtado's Class
What's New in Math and Science??
It has been a busy month here in grade 2!! I am so proud of all the learning and hard work taking place in our classroom community. Students have been working diligently on becoming more efficient mathematicians. They have been using various strategies like getting to a landmark number and keeping their tens together! I will be hosting a parent seminar on Feb. 11th that will help parents better understand this model and how to support your child at home. I hope to see many of you there!!
Yours in education,
In math, we are continuing our work in with 2D and 3D shapes. Our young mathematicians' gears have been turning and learning as we have been learning about the different types of polygons and attributes used to describe them in geometry. Also during this unit we have worked in small groups to categorize various polygons and non-polygons based on their attributes, participated in a gallery walk, giving fellow mathematicians feedback. Check out some of their work below!
PICTURES COMING SOON!
What does the shape say?
We are continuing our learning with matter. Students have been exploring solids and liquids. They will be performing a Webquest on 3 states of matter. Then we will be moving onto our next unitof study, Seeds for Science: Designing Mixtures!
