The Letourneau School’s vision is to provide children with the skills necessary to be successful in middle school. Reading and writing are essential to both the problem solving and concept-discovery processes. They help bridge the gap between ordinary language and the specialized language of mathematics. This research, as well as specific school data, forms the basis of the Letourneau School’s vision and its School Improvement Plan (SIP). Our intent is to implement a total school coordinated effort and approach to literacy that will enable students to show growth in content knowledge, vocabulary, and proficiency in using comprehension strategies to improve overall comprehension, as measured by MCAS, DIBELS, Group Reading Assessment and Diagnostic Evaluation (GRADE), and district math benchmarks. We plan to see all students successfully enter the middle grades with test data that reflects proficiency in core subject areas. click here
