Welcome to 7th grade Mathematics at HLMS.  As you can imagine, we have a lot of challenging and hard work facing us this year.  It is a goal of mine to ensure that we are all life long learners.  I hope that the students, guardians and faculty will work hard to accomplish that goal. 

Outcomes

By the end of the year students will have completed a variety of work in several books and be competent in the following areas:

  • Operations with fractions
  • Similarity
  • Ratios, proportions, percents
  • Positive and negative integers
  • Linear relationships and equations
  • Probability
  • Three-dimensional measurement
  • Data analysis

Grading Policy (Assessment)

The following percentages will be used to determine each student’s grade:

35% Benchmarks & Quarterly Exams                           

30% Quizzes & Projects

10% Binder                           

10% Homework                                                        

15% Selected classwork, quick checks, participation or other assignments

Note

Students are always encouraged to improve their grade by redoing assignments, retaking assessments and extra credit.  Please make arrangements with us…remember to complete this before the term closes!!!

Homework Policy

Homework will be assigned on an as needed basis.  Late homework will be accepted with a minor deduction.

Discipline

Each student is asked to follow the Classroom Etiquette as stated above.  Although I am sure we will have no problems this year, failure to follow the class etiquette will result in the appropriate disciplinary action; 1) warning/reminder 2) parent/guardian contact 3) parent/guardian/teacher meeting 3) teacher detention 4) referral to the vice principal

Extra Help

Our door is always open …We will be available for extra help by appointment.  Students should let us know a day in advance if they will be staying for extra help.

 

 



What's happening...

Measurement Unit

  • Students will be able to calculate area and perimeter of two dimensional shapes.
  • Students will be able to calculate surface area and volume of three dimensional figures.

*Benchmark Exam on this unit is Thursday, March 29 and Friday, March 30.
