Prom season is finally upon us! The way a girl does her hair for prom is crucial to the way she looks. You can make your decision easier by finding a hairstyle that is suitable, not only to your dress and personality, but also to your facial features.

There are so many fabulous prom hairstyles to choose from. Whether it be a braided up-do, or a beautiful side swept hairstyle, you want to make sure that your hair works with your dress and makeup. Popular hair trends this year include short, long flat-ironed hair, long waves pinned up, fishtails and other braids, romantic soft buns, and unique styled high up-do's.

If you are going for a strapless dress you may want to settle for an up-do so that your dress stands out more. A casual do-it-yourself hairstyle that is classy, yet casual, is a soft wavy up-do. To get your hair in tip-top shape, you need to make your hair texturized in some way, so your hair doesn't come undone throughout the night. To do this, you'll need styling spray, perhaps dry shampoo and a lot of pins and hairspray. One celebrity that rocks this hairstyle is Jessica Alba; she adds a side braid to her hair for a little more style.

Another easy-to-do hairstyle is the classic side pony tail. To add elegance you can

add a flower or head band to this simple up-do. Take your hair and part it as desired. Curl your hair with a curling iron or hair straightener and then put it up to either the left or right side of your hair. Add some bobby pins to keep it secure and you're on your way! Carrie Underwood supports this style and looks great in her casual side pony.

If you're dress has a more simple, elegant touch to it, you may want to go with your hair down or in a simple fishtail braid. Fishtail braids have become extremely mainstream this past year. It's a simple hairstyle that is easy to do, and looks fabulous with any type of outfit, including prom dresses.
