How to: The Sock Bun

Melissa DeAlmeida

In the last year, the sock bun has gone completely mainstream. Celebrities like Kim Kardashian and Jennifer Lopez have been using this hair trick for a while now and it has become extremely popular in the teen community.

The process of creating a sock bun is quite simple and the results are absolutely beautiful. You are giving more height to your bun by using an ordinary sock underneath it to create a base. Here are seven easy steps to create your desired sock bun:

1: Take a long sock and cut off the toe end of it so it's similar to a long tube.

2: Comb your hair into a ponytail secured with an elastic where you want your bun to lie so that your hair is tangle-free and smooth.

3: Scrunch your sock together by folding it inwards forming a doughnut-like hole.

4: Take your sock and insert the hole at the top of your ponytail where your elastic is.

5: Split your ponytail evenly into two halves and disperse the hair around the sock so it is not visible.

6: Smoothing the hair as you go, tuck the ends of your hair under and around the sock and secure it with a few bobby pins.

7: Finish with a bit of hairspray to hold the shape of the bun and you're on your way!

If you're going to a dressy occasion that requires a touch of elegance or even just a simple updo, a sock bun is an easy hairstyle to do by yourself.
