Sperry's & TOMS are all the Rage

Students of Durfee are starting off the school year with many new and exciting  trends, especially on their feet. Sperrys and TOMS brand shoes seem to be what many girls and guys are wearing around the halls.

In 2006, American traveler Blake Mycoskie traveled to Argentina and discovered that impoverished children had no shoes to protect their feet. In response to this sad discovery, he created TOMS shoes. The company would match every pair of shoes purchased with a pair of new shoes for a child in need. You can purchase TOMS at most shoe stores including Journey’s, PacSun, and Berks.

The prices vary from $50-65, depending on the design and color of the shoes. Considering that they are going to a good cause, that may be one of the many reasons students are purchasing them; not to mention that they come in a variety of different colors and are super comfy on your feet!

Another brand of shoes that have become increasingly popular are Sperrys. Sperry Top-Sider is an original brand of boat shoe designed in 1935 by Paul Sperry. Sperry was an avid sailor who risked injury daily while walking on the slippery deck of his boat. To decrease falling he created the shoes which, in the present day, have actually become a fashion trend for most teenagers. These comfy yet stylish shoes also come in many different colors including black, tan, and even sequin. The prices range from $50-80 and are worth the price if you pursue the trend.
Although each brand may be a bit pricey, it’s all worth it in the end when you have the cutest shoes at school!
