Senior Mike Wilson Finishing Strong

Senior year is quickly coming to an end as we enter the month of May. Many seniors have made their decisions on what college they are attending and are now just waiting to cross the stage in June. The senior athletes however, still have some work to do before senior year ends as they attempt to make the state tournament in their respective sports. That's what senior baseball player Mike Wilson is trying to accomplish before it is over once and for all.

It's hard to miss him on the field, as Wilson stands at 6'2 at 185 pounds. His stature makes him a threat every time he steps up to the plate. This is Wilson's second year on varsity for Durfee, now playing the role as a starting first basemen/designated hitter.

Off the field, Wilson likes to occupy his time by going to the gym and being around his friends. The summer is his favorite time of the year, for the two reasons of warm weather and playing baseball.

"The best summer days are being able to sleep in a little bit in the morning, go to the gym in the early afternoon, play a game in the middle of the afternoon, and then be able to hang out with friends at night."

Wilson will be doing those things this summer before he goes off to college. He will be attending Lasell College in Newton, Massachusetts in the fall. He will be living on campus and is planning on majoring in exercise science. Without a second thought he is also going to play baseball for Lasell.

As exciting as he is about the next stage of his life, he is going to miss being a Durfee Hilltopper.

"I'm definitely going to miss my friends, my favorite teachers, and playing sports here. As soon as I got the hang of Durfee, it seemed like I was already looking for colleges, and now I'm going to college. It went by way too fast."

Wilson has been playing baseball since he was 5 years old. So far, his favorite baseball memory has been playing at the Cincinnati Reds spring training facility in Sarasota, Florida. He is a huge New York Yankees fan and his favorite player is Yankees starting pitcher C.C. Sabathia.
