As soon as the sound of the starting gun shot into the air on Friday, January 18, freshman Connor Riley had one goal set in his mind: to break a school record.

The Durfee Winter Track and Field team shipped up to Wheaton College in Norton, MA to face their conference opponents, New Bedford and Brockton. Knowing that he would need to step up his game to give Durfee a chance to win, Riley came prepared to give his race everything he had. He wanted to do nothing more than make his coach, his teammates, and most importantly, himself proud.

Running in his specialty, the 600 meter run, Riley placed fourth in the race and beat not only his personal record, but Durfee's freshmen record as well. He ran an impressive time of 1:34, shattering the old record of 1:37 by 3 seconds.

Being only a freshman, he still has many years to work hard and beat even more personal, as well as school records. If you are a track fan, make sure to look out for Connor Riley. You could be looking at the next Usain Bolt.
