As Durfee is getting geared up for pep-rally and the annual football game against New Bedford, the hockey team is also getting prepared for another intense season. The team just had their last captains' practice Saturday night and are eagerly waiting for their first official practice on November 26.

“We have a good group of guys who get along well together. We know going into this season we are going to have to work very hard to get some wins,” said senior captain Tyler Amaral.

The 2011-2012 team ended with a record of 1-18-1. The record may not show it, but if you ask anyone who went to a game last season, Durfee always played with heart
until the final blow of the whistle. The last 5 games of the season were decided by 2 goals or less. The last game resulting in a 5-4 loss against Apponequet in the challenge cup that was nearly tied in the remaining 20 seconds.

The team has lost 8 seniors since last year, including  Alan Pontes and Ryan Nestor who led the team in goals scored last season. Also departing is standout and hard hitting defenseman, Bryan Silva. The team will be led by senior captain and goalie Ryan Levassuer who gives the Hilltoppers a chance for a win every game. Junior captain John Bonanca and junior Zach Pereira will have plenty of ice time on defense this season. Senior forwards Lucas Saunders and Tyler Amaral will get plenty of ice time too as they look to do much of the scoring this season.

The Hilltoppers will drop the puck on Jamboree night on December 8, at Driscoll Memorial skating rink which  will consist of four games, the first starting at 4:00 p.m. Here the Toppers will take on their cross town rivals, the Diman Bengals, at 8:30 p.m. The first official game will take place on December 12 at 6:00 p.m. at Driscoll Memorial Skating Rink. The Toppers will take on the Somerset-Berkley Blue Raiders, who nearly made it to the state championship game last season. So come on out and support! Get bundled up and have that hot chocolate handy and get ready for an exciting season.
