The Taunton Tigers hosted Durfee's varsity football team on Friday afternoon. The Toppers walked into this game with a win in mind, as they have beaten the Tigers the two previous seasons, but they would leave disappointed.

Durfee won the coin toss and elected to receive the ball, but they were forced to punt on their first possession. Durfee’s defense, on the other hand, made some noise early in the game by forcing and recovering a fumble on Taunton’s first play. The Topper offense then capitalized on this opportunity, scoring on a toss play to senior captain Raheem Barzey. This put the Hilltoppers on the scoreboard early in the game 7-0.

Durfee was able to get to the Tiger’s two yard line on their next possession, but were unable to score. This became an occurance that cost the Toppers the game. They were able to get within the red zone several times throughout the game, but failed to score. Durfee’s defense was able to recover six fumbles throughout the game, forcing all of them. The offense however, had difficulty making scoring opportunities on these second chances.

Taunton responded to the Hilltopper touchdown with four of their own throughout the second and third quarters. The Hilltopper offense was able to score a few times in the fourth quarter. Both were passes from junior quarterback Travellis Oliver, one to sophomore Michael Correia and the other to senior Jose Soares. Emmanuel Fernandes had two successful point after kicks, and one kick was unable to get off due to a bad snap.

The Tigers were able to score once more before the game was over making the final score 34-20.
