On Friday, February 10, the Durfee Girls Basketball team received their 10th win during their away game against Bishop Stang High School. This important win locked in their spot at the state tournament, something they have not done since 2010. The Durfee Girl's held the lead throughout the entire game with a final score of 38-23.

The first quarter was a low scoring one, with an 8 point lead (11-3) for Durfee. The Durfee Girls quickly proved their strong defense and executing offense, gaining points from senior co-captain, forward Chelsea Campellone. The defense and offense were still strong starting the second quarter. Baskets from junior, forward Bailey Brooks and senior co-captain, guard Rachael Camara including a 15-foot buzzer beater assisted the toppers with a 26-7 lead at the end of the first half.

Coming into the second half, Stang was facing a 19 point deficit and hoped to come out strong on defense. As the Toppers defense fell apart, the Spartans outscored Durfee 9-7, ending the third quarter 33-16. Although the the Stang girls outscored the Durfee girls again in the fourth quarter (7-5) it was not good enough to close out the game, leaving the Durfee Girls with a spot in the tournament.

"It feels awesome to know that we are back in the tournament again, it is something we've been working hard for all season and I would love to make a trip to the Boston Garden again," said Campellone.

“I’m so glad we are having a good season and having fun while doing it and I’m super excited to be back in the playoffs,” said Camara.

The Lady Toppers are looking to finish their regular seasons with wins against New Bedford and Attleboro and hope to win the following three playoff games to make it to the Boston Garden.
