The Durfee High School varsity field hockey team has started their season off strong with a great group of girls who are willing to play hard and push themselves to gain success for their team. On Friday, September 16, the team faced Taunton High School, ending with a score of 1-1. Center Forward Maggie Toure scored the lone goal for the team; this was the first official goal of the season by the Toppers.

"I think it was a great game, I think if we had more players we would've pulled off a win considering we have beat them in the past. Not having subs was the only thing going against us," said Amy Cook, varsity field hockey coach.

After facing Taunton, their next challenge was against Seekonk High School on Monday, September 19. After tying in their last game the girls played strong, but ended with a loss of 2-0.

Their biggest loss so far this season was against Dartmouth High School on Wednesday, September 2. In the first ten minutes of the game senior co-captain, Angela Motta, scored a great goal with no assists. However by the end of the first half Dartmouth had the upper hand scoring three goals with no answer from Durfee. At the end of the second half, Dartmouth managed to get two more goals past the Topper's defense, ending the game with a score of 5-1.

"I think the girls are doing great with the running and being able to keep up in the games without subs. I'm hoping we can get at least half of the wins, because I know that they can do it," said Cook.
