On Tuesday, October 5, Durfee's boys and girls cross country teams faced Dartmouth High School on their home course of 3.1 miles. Unfortunately, both Topper teams suffered defeat.

Junior Chris Witty was the first to finish in the boys' race, running a 17:37 followed by teammates Tony Cabral (18:34) and Sam Deung (18:46) in fourth and fifth places. Jeremy Folger (18:59) and Nyrel Stroup (18:59) finished off the boys' top five runners coming in ninth and tenth places. The boys finished with a score of 26-29.

Senior Nicole Massoud came in second in the girls' race finishing with a time of 21:00. Teammate Sarah Skillin came in fifth with a time of 22:26. Abaigeal O’Brien (24:25) and Camila Rodriguez (24:52) finished in eighth and tenth places respectively.  Laura Cabral was the fifth and final runner for the Durfee girls, finishing in fifteenth place running a time of 30:25. Both O’Brien and Cabral received their best times of the season. Though all the girls put in their best efforts, they suffered a 37-21 defeat.

“Although we didn’t win, everyone stepped it up despite the rainy weather and really gave it their all," said senior captain Nicole Massoud. "When you have a small team like we do it is hard to compete with other schools, but everyone worked hard and didn’t give up.”
