 Girls track clenches first victory of season

On Monday, January 10, the Durfee girl’s track team beat Barnstable High School with a score of 56-44, achieving their first victory of the season.

The meet started off on a high note with Durfee’s Jenna Melo coming in second and Rahdi Iddrisu coming in third in the 300. Nicole Massoud and Angela Motta followed by winning first place and third place respectively in the mile race. Massoud also competed in the high jump where she resulted in second place. The winning streak started by Massoud continued with Sarah Skillin winning the 600, Allison Statz in the 1000, Bianca Roberts in high jump, Andrea Dupont in shot put, and Camila Rodriguez in the two mile.

Durfee picked up multiple second places as well with Shena Butler in the 55, Alexa Garant in the 600, Amanda Tiburtino in shot put, and Elisha Griffin in hurdles. Marlene Costa and Abaigeal O’Brien obtained third place in their respective races of the 1000 and two mile.

Durfee finished off the meet by winning the 4x2 relay, which secured their win. Co-captain Massoud commented after the meet stating that the team "went into the meet today knowing we had a chance to win everyone stepped it up. I’m very proud of our team.”

Co-captain Bianca Roberts was also "so proud" of the team. "We stepped it up and deserved this win,” said Roberts.
