On January 5, the Durfee wrestling team had a home match against Barnstable High School. While both teams began preparing for the meet, the crowd was filled with anticipation as they awaited the first wrestler’s match.

The first two wrestlers from Durfee were brothers  Jake Perreira and  Adam Perreira, a junior and sophomore respectively. Jake went up almost immediately but suddenly began to struggle at the end of the first period. After three tough periods, Jake unfortunately lost, putting Durfee down 3-0. Next up was Adam who, in his second period, managed to pin his competitor, giving Durfee a 6-3 lead.

Durfee senior Jacob Martin had the next match, and although he battled hard through all three periods he eventually lost, tying the match. Luckily, junior Nicholas Champagne swooped in the next match and pinned his opponent in the second period winning back the lead.

Unfortunately things began to go downhill for Durfee after that. The next seven matches were lost, putting Durfee behind 47-12.

Durfee finally ended things on a good note, first with senior Dave Medeiros pinning his adversary in eleven seconds, and then junior Eric Benevides also pinning his opponent in the first period.

Durfee also had to forfeit one weight class. The final score of the match landed in Barnstable’s favor, 47-24.
