The Durfee boys' basketball team, led by captains Cory Cardeiro, Kevin Garcia, and Alex Rodrigues, is starting the season off slow. With a 47-43 loss to Attleboro Tuesday night, they fell to 2-4. This losing record doesn't fit the potential of the team though. Being inexperienced at the varsity level, with only two returning varsity players (Garcia and Rodrigues), is reflected when the boys try to close out a game. They came up short in two other games losing by at least 6 points against Madison Park and Attleboro the first time they played the schools.

In Durfee's loss on Tuesday night, Attleboro's 6'3" forward, Kebba Nasso helped his team start the game off strong by scoring the first six points of the game. Cardeiro helped Durfee loosen up by scoring Durfee's first three points of his seven total with a three point shot from the left wing. This would begin the 18-4 run Durfee took to take a 18-10 lead as the first half came to a close. Senior Rakeem Tavares scored seven points in the second quarter to help Durfee keep a 21-20 half-time lead. Poor shooting from both sides of the court resulted in the low score at half-time.

During the second half of the game the Hilltoppers stayed close until Attleboro finally took the lead for good. Durfee began making big defensive plays but couldn't do enough on the offensive side of the court.

"I feel that all the games that we've lost have come down to being inexperienced. A young team like us has shown that, but down the stretch towards the end of the season we're going to pull together and be a tough team to beat." said Durfee captain Cory Cardeiro.
