Durfee boys notch first win

On Tuesday, December 21, 2010, the Durfee Boys' basketball team defeated Somerset 76-53 at Veterans Gymnasium. Durfee led by 29 going into the half, securing the victory.

Captain Cory Cardeiro, Anthony Espinola, and Reynaldo Perez had each scored double figures by the intermission. Perez and Garcia played super leading the pressure and leading the team with steals.

Kyle Therriault came off the bench for the Hilltoppers and finished the first quarter with six points.

For the Hilltoppers, Espinola finished with a game high 17 points. Perez scored 16, Cardeiro had 10, and Therriault and Alex Rodrigues both scored eight points.

"There are going to be nights where the team can't hit a shot, but when we hustle and have effort and self pride it shows that we are going to be a tough team to beat," said Cardeiro.

With the win, Durfee improved their record to 1-2, while Somerset dropped to 2-2. Durfee's next home game will be Wednesday December 29 when they host the first annual Thomas "Skip" Karam Holiday Classic. Durfee's first game will be at 7:15 p.m. against LaSalle Academy. If victorious, the championship game will be Thursday December 30th at 7:17 p.m. against the winner of the Barnstable and Madison Park game. If Durfee loses to LaSalle, the consolation game will be Thursday December 30th at 5:30 p.m. against the loser of the Barnstable and Madison Park Game.
