With fall Sports under way, Durfee is looking forward to start a new year on the right foot. With the new addition of players, as well as Coaches, teams are fighting their way to victory with hopes of making the MIAA playoff tournament. This weeks sports results are below.  

 

Girls Soccer

The Durfee girls’ soccer team was defeated on Tuesday, September 9th by Dartmouth with a final score of 3-0. Durfee was unable to execute offensively, struggling to score with starting forward Isabel McDonnell not capable of playing due to an injury. They held Dartmouth to only one goal after one half of play, but could not pull through in the second half.

On Thursday September 11th ,the girls’ team was able to capture  their first victory of the season. Battling to come back from a two goal deficit, they came up with a 3-2 win with two goals from sophomore Isabel McDonnell and a goal from junior Jordyn Gauvin to seal the win late in the second half. The Toppers played their best game of soccer so far this season. “We played as a team and played well as a team. We needed to get this win” said coach Gina Calenda. The lady Toppers are looking forward to to getting back on track with a winning season. 

 

Boys Soccer

The boys’ soccer team suffered a 3-1 loss when they played at Dartmouth on Tuesday afternoon. The lone goal was scored by junior Yorik Sajbin Chocoj(sp). “We started to improve late in the first half,but when the game started they really took it to us,” said Coach Mello. Durfee’s goalie Brenden Pacheco came up with some big saves to keep his team alive, but they were unable to pull through with a win.

 

On what date?,With goals from Miguel Pavao and Leandro Oliveira, the Durfee boys soccer team came out on top with a great 2-0 win over Somerset. Pavao gave Durfee the early lead in the first half while the toppers played a tremendous defensive game to keep the Raiders scoreless. Oliveira netted a great shot in the second half to keep a victory out of Somerset’s reach. 

 

Field Hockey

Unfortunately, the field hockey team could not get a win this week with two losses. The first was a 3-1 loss to Apponequet on Tuesday afternoon. Junior Hailee Sousa had the lone goal for the Toppers, but it was not enough. The Lakers played more aggressively and Durfee could not prevent them from scoring.

 

On Tuesday, September 9th Bridgewater Raynham also defeated the Toppers with a score of 3-1. However, the final outcome of the game was not an indication of how Durfee played. With a goal from junior Hailey Michael early in the first half, the Toppers had high hopes for a win. Bridgewater came back hard though and put away three goals to claim the victory.
