During the summer of 2010 Ken and Carole Fiola, established the Durfee Hilltopper Athletic Foundation. The foundation serves to raise funds that go directly back to the Durfee High School Athletic Program. These funds are used normally for needs that are not funded by the school athletic department budget.

With hundreds of student athletes each year, that balance academics, Division 1 sports, and other extracurricular activities, Durfee students should have resources available to them that other schools have available to them.

“For many students in this urban community, sports are the main reason they come to school each day and while there are many needs in our school system, we felt that we should tap into the legacy of pride that former Hilltoppers have had for their school. We created this foundation to hopefully bring significant dollars to Durfee Athletics,” said Carole Fiola.

The foundation board is made up of several former athletes, of various sports and age groups, parents of current Durfee students, and other community supporters. Donors are even able to make donations as tax deductible contributions. You can contact Carole Fiola, president of the foundation, by either email or Facebook, if you are interested in becoming a part of the organization or if you are interested in making a donation.

The Durfee Hilltopper Athletic Foundation has already raised over $20,000 for special items that are needed, or wanted, by the Athletic Department. The foundation reviews and votes for which items they find most important and they write direct checks to the vendors.

On Friday, November 18, the foundation hosted their 2nd Annual Friend Raiser at the Fall River Cultural Center. The foundation will also be holding their 2nd Hilltopper Golf Tournament in July 2012 at the Fall River Country Club.

If you are interested in becoming a part of the organization or if you would like to make a donation, please contact Carole Fiola, president of the foundation, by either email (CaroleFiola@aol.com) or Facebook.
