9-22-11 Girls Swimming Captures Big 3 Crown
The girls swimming and diving team won the Big 3 Conference title with its dominating, 11-75 victory over Brockton. The Lady Hilltoppers, now 2-1 overall, had previously defeated New Bedford.
In the Brockton meet, Caroline Batista (individual medley, breaststroke) and Lexi Mendonca (50 and 100-meter freestyles) were both double individual event winners and also took part in winning relay events.
Other event winners for Durfee were Lindsay Mello (diving), Sarah Medeiros (backstroke), the medley relay team of Batista, Medeiros, Mendonca and Rochelle Gaudette, the 200 free relay team of Mendonca, Batista, Elisha Griffin and Tori Mancini and the 400 free relay team of Medeiros, Griffin, Gaudette and Claudia Sousa.
Other notable performances were turned in by Gaudette and Anita Pechenenko, whose respective second and third place showings in the backstroke gave the Toppers a sweep of that event; Griffin, who also took second in the 100 freestyle and Sarah Bitcliffe, who finished second in the breaststroke.
