Educational Proficiency Plan (EPP)

What is an Educational Proficiency Plan (EPP)? The Educational Proficiency Plan is a summary of your academic achievement in math and English.  It is a plan highlighting the math and English courses that you are currently taking as Juniors and will take next year as Seniors to continue working towards the proficiency score of 240-258.

Which  students are required to have an EPP? Students who scored a needs improvement on the math MCAS test will need to  have an EPP. (MCAS Scale:  Advanced: 260 – 280, Proficient: 240 – 258, Needs Improvement: 220 - 238)

Why am I expected to work towards Proficiency? The purpose of the EPP is to increase the likelihood that studentsgraduating from high school will have the academic skills needed for success in college or a career.

What steps do I need to take to meet my EPP requirements and graduate with the Class of 2011?

Step 1 - The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education first requires you to pass MCAS with a score of 220.

Step 2 - The next step is for you to pass your math and English courses this year.  If you do not pass them, attend summer school in math and/or English this year in order to meet your plan.

Step 3 - You must take the EPP math test in the spring.  You will receive the results of the test by the end of the school year.  If you achieve a 240, then you have reached proficiency. If you do not earn  a 240 then you must complete Step 4.

Step 4 - Having not reached proficiency junior year through the EPP test, you must then take and pass you senior year of math and English. If you do not pass them, you will be required to go to summer school and graduate in August of 2011.

What is the EPP math test?  The EPP math test is a 60 question multiple choice test, made up of two test sessions.   By passing the EPP math test, it will not be mandatory for you to pass your math course senior year to graduate; you must, however, at least take the course.

When is the EPP math test? The date is to be announced.  There will NOT be a makeup test and you will then be held to the four steps listed above without any room for failure.

Why am I not taking an English EPP test? In order to graduate from Durfee you must pass 4 years of English and 3 years of math.  Based on this, all students must take and pass senior English in order to meet the Durfee graduation requirements which demonstrates educational proficiency.
