- POETRY
Description:- Students will be exposed to a variety of poets. They will work through a variety of figurative language and work towards gaining new vocabulary skills. Students will enter contests available.

2. CRAFTY CRAFTERS
Description:- Students will work on designing crafts from beginning to end. The process will include lesson and communicating what students know about creating a craft, incorporating cultural aspects of craft-making, how to solve problems that arise when creating the craft, and culminating in creating gifts for family members.

3. YOGA AND MINDFULNESS
Description:- Students will learn the importance of the mind/body connection. Learning breathing, poses and stretching students will support students physical, mental and emotional well being. Students will learn stress management skills and develop a better sense of self through the activity.

4. FOOD FRENZY
Description:- Students will read and discuss grade level books that incorporate food. They will work on reviewing recipes and preparing food. In addition students will use journaling to reinforce learning and participate in games created around food knowledge and education.

5. QUILTERS CORNER
Description:- Students will review literature and learn about the history of quilting. Over the course of the 16 week session students will work together create a wall hanging and learn the art of quilting.

6. CREATIVE MOVEMENT
Description:- Students will explore the art of dance and movement in this activity. They will have the opportunity to learn about the body and different dance techniques. They will be able to create their own dance, work with others in a team environment and gain self confidence and esteem by performing in a show at the culmination of the activity for family, staff, teachers and others.

7. FUN WITH HEALTHY EATING
Description:- Students will learn about nutrition and the importance of a well balanced diet. They will create recipes and enjoy the fruits of their labor. Activities and games will be centered on modeling healthy eating habits. Journaling will also be a part of this activity.

8. USING COMPUTERS TO LEARN AND HAVE FUN
Description:- Students will use the internet to learn about the intricacies of educational websites and how they work. Students will use the computer to design and create power point presentations in connection with the websites.

9. BRING A BOOK ALIVE
Description:- Students will read three books by Andrew Clement. During the 16 week session and as each book is finished students will work together to create a script and stage performance. Journaling will also be incorporated into this activity in order to give students an opportunity to work on specific skills including reflection, organizing thoughts and ideas and using new vocabulary.

10. EXPLORING AND CREATING GAMES
Description:- Students will learn how to play specific games that they can teach to their families and play at home. These games will assist students in learning and improving skills such as problem solving, communication, strategizing and predicting outcomes. At the culmination of the activity students will create their own game along with creating a name, making the rules and produce a commercial to market their game in order to convince others to play.

11. MATH GAMES
Description:- Students will create basic math games to bring home and play with their families. Have fun playing and creating games while learning and furthering basic mathematical skills. Measuring, estimating, and gathering data and classifying objects are skill sets that will be addressed during the activity.

12. NURSERY RHYMES
Description:- Students will interact with each other in reading nursery rhymes. They will follow up with games and art projects. K will concentrate on rhyming and beginning sounds. Grade 1 will look for sight words, Letter patterns, and sequencing.

13. HOUSE AND CULTURE HUNTERS INTERNATIONAL
Description:- The students would be told that their family is moving to another country and they will attend an American school in that country. They must decide what they want to know and need to know before they move so they can learn about the country and be prepared to live and study there.

14. LANGUAGE OF MUSIC
Description:- Students will listen to a wide variety of music and work on interpreting the lyrics, creating alternative song parody lyrics and writing music. Reading comprehension, vocabulary and writing skills will be addressed.

15. GUITAR
Description:- Students will learn basic guitar. The class will include chords as well as integrate mathematical, communication, reading and writing skills. Students will learn how a chord is composed, strumming patterns, tempo, time keeping, reading tablature, musical notations, and reading notes on a musical scale. Students will use their knowledge to, not only play songs, but also create their own music and song. This class is going to be used to gain an appreciation for music and knowledge that can be transferred to other musical instruments.

16. BREAKING NEWS
Description:- Students will learn and participate in three roles during the length of this activity. They will have an opportunity to work as a photographer, writer and editor. The culmination of the activity will result in students creating a Newspaper.

17. FUTSAL
Description:- This is a physical fitness activity similar to soccer and will provide students with an opportunity to work as a team learn and abide by rules and gain athletic based skills. Students will also learn the layout of the field and mathematical concepts will be incorporated.

18. WE ARE AUTHORS
Description:- Students will begin by brainstorming ideas and discussing topics. They will work to create their own books through reading, research and writing. The end result will be a book the students can share with others.

19. SHORT STORY WORKSHOP
Description:- =Students will participate in a creative writing workshop. Students will work on writing skills. Students will have ownership of their writing by allowing them to pick the topic. The process will include of prewriting, drafting, revising, editing, and publishing (using Microsoft Word if able to or simply binding their work in a folder) Students will create a work of fiction.
