Meet the High School Level School Adjustment Counselors!

Jessica Matos Ashley Monteiro

Ms. Matos graduated from UMass Dartmouth in 2009 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Crime and Justice Studies.  She then went on to earn her Master of Arts Degree in Criminal Justice from UMass Lowell (2011) and her Masters in Social Work from Boston University (2014).  Ms. Matos has 5 years of experience working with adolescents with significant emotional and behavioral difficulties.  Her extensive work in residential programs has allowed her to work closely with those who have suffered from a number of traumatic experiences, including neglect, physical, sexual and emotional abuse, parental substance abuse and mental health issues.  This is Ms. Matos first year at Resiliency Preparatory as a School Adjustment Counselor.  With her dedication to improving the future of at risk youth, as well as her previous work experience, Ms. Matos brings a wealth of information on how best to work with the population that Resiliency Preparatory serves.                                                            

Ms. Monteiro graduated in 2005 from Boston College with a Bachelor's degree in Sociology and Communication. In 2013  she received her Master's degree in Mental Health Counseling from Bridgewater State University. Ms. Monteiro has 10 years of experience working with adolescents and families who are dealing with mental health issues, domestic violence, poverty, substance abuse, parental abuse or neglect and emotional distress as a result of traumatic exposure. From her past positions as a DCF social worker, service coordinator and clinician, she is very knowledgeable on the resources available in the community to best serve our students.


Meet the Middle School Level Counselors

Ashley Estacio - Behavior Therapy Specialist Elizabeth Ferguson - School Psychologist

Ms. E has a BA in psychology from UMass Dartmouth and is currently enrolled in her MA clinical psychology program to ultimately receive her LMHC. Her experience started as the intern school clinician for a locked alternative middle school program and since then has included being a caseworker, a counselor for a residential facility and in-home therapist. This is Ashley's third school year here at Resiliency Preparatory as the Behavior Therapy Specialist. With her case management and crisis intervention skills, Ms.Estacio is very successful in addressing students of concern. 

Liz Ferguson received her Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary (1-6) and Special Education (K-8) from Salve Regina University in 2009. She then went on to earn her Master’s Degree and Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies (CAGS) in School Psychology from William James College in 2013.  Liz has experience as a teacher working with students in a locked mental health facility and as a special education team chair and school psychologist in Stoughton, MA. Liz is currently in her third year as the school psychologist at Resiliency Preparatory. Ms. Ferguson believes that though the student’s that she works with have significant struggles and have experienced trauma, they should be able to use that as a motivator to push them to achieve more and not as an excuse to continue to make poor choices. 

Groups Offered by the counselors

  • Mindfulness/resilience group: a psychoeducational that provides students with some skills to regulate their emotions effectively. It draws from mindfulness and meditation practices. A unique and different approach to management of emotions.
